UE Mentions in the Middle States Commission on Higher Education Report

Every eight years, Penn State’s national accreditor, the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), requires member institutions to complete a comprehensive self-evaluation demonstrating educational quality, success in meeting institutional mission, ethical practices, and positive student outcomes. The self-study must also provide evidence of compliance with MSCHE standards for accreditation and serves as an opportunity to recognize the University’s strengths as well as opportunities for improvement.

In the final MSCHE report, presented in late March at University Park at the conclusion of the peer evaluation team site visit, the work of several Undergraduate Education units was highlighted. Mentions included:

  • the Schreyer Institute for Teaching Excellence, for supporting faculty, especially in the area of course/curriculum development and assessment
  • Student Orientation and Transition Programs' support of students through the 2+2 process and Welcome Week programming
  • Morgan Academic Center, for the academic success of our student-athletes
  • the Office for General Education, given special commendation for General Education assessment and outcomes
  • the Division of Undergraduate Studies, for the important work of academic advisers across the University and the value and opportunity represented by Starfish
  • the Student Engagement Network for the value and potential of the Engagement App
  • the Student Success Center for its value in assisting students nearing completion through the Complete Penn State program

UE leadership looks forward to sharing a copy of the report when it becomes available. Well done, UE staff!
